Camera Phone Gallery

Been digging in the crates of my cell phone, didn't realize how many forgotten photos are stored in there.
Here is a small sampling of moments captured so far this year.

Sole Tech training facility, Chad samples perfect marble.

Took a photo of a magazine in Barnes & Noble, Silas Baxter-Neal in Japan doing something gnarly on ridiculous transition.

Maybe one of the best license plates I've ever seen.

This one kind of kills it as well.

Not bad either.

Hawaii has ghettos? Come on.

Big bombucha for big braddahs.

Diabetes? Rub some tussin on it.

Horrible, but so bad it's good.

Heights Drive-In kills your favorite plate lunch spot, and I do mean it's not even close. Aiea, son!

This movie looks promising.

It's a car. It's a hot dog. It's a hot dog car. They gave me a hot dog whistle. No homo.

Sean Patrick Reilly in the rain.

Sean Patrick Reilly bringing the pain.

Two angles? Must be something mesmerizing.

In4mation beverage holder is on fire!

But Old Smuggler is what's really up.

Treevisions Trippin' In Japan

More stuff from Japan, this time it's a collaboration of sorts from my main tomodachi Junji in Osaka and our Hawaiian braddah man Conor from Treevisions.

Last month Conor went to Japan with his boys Elliot and Riley and they met up with their homie Tohmi from New York as well as Okinawan ripper Chris Matayoshi and his fellow down south buddy Wataru.
During his stay in Japan Conor and the whole crew were in Osaka for a few days and they got together with my dear friends Junji and Takashi from Soundboarding to shred and feel the Osaka vibe.

Here's the end result of what Junji filmed:

For cross reference, here are two parts that Conor filmed himself:

Oh, and on a releated note, Conor just left Hawaii for NYC to go to school for a semester, just wanted to say good luck and keep the camera rolling, son. Shit is dope.

Always super stoked on Japanese footage, especially from Osaka.
So many familiar spots, and Junji and Takashi know how to show people around, plus Soundboarding is always on point with the local flavor.

Gonna be hitting Japan again in a few weeks myself, sadly Osaka will have to wait until next year, this time it's all about shredding Tokyo but my man Masa got me covered!

Until then, steady working and stacking yen.
Sayonara.

Sean Reilly NK Pro Model: I Touched It! NO HOMO.

Actually, NO NOT HOMO, or should I say YES HOMO?
No, but seriously.
I touched it!

Oh what?
You ain't even know that the living legend himself Sean Patrick Reilly was a full-blown professional skateboarder?
That shit is old, you betta get some Chukkas, fucka!
Seriously though, most people that skate in Hawaii already been knowing about SPR joining the ranks of the professionals, but in case you're still slumbering, peep this little nug from the NK website.

Anyway, I finally got the chance to bear witness in the flesh to the one and only Bedpan's Natural Koncept pro model deck yesterday.
Yes, it is as breathtaking as you would imagine it to be, in fact probably more so.
Behold.

My man Kenny already got one of these for his birthday last week and this autographed baby right here was recently presented by Sean to the In4mation dudes.

Hey movie star, where the fuck is mine?
But really though.
I ain't looking for no handout.
I got fifty on it at least, you earned it!
Talk to me.

Ryan Spencer Mag Minute

More Hawaiian peoples in the mix getting some worldwide exposure is always good.

Check out Maui boy Ryan Spencer over at The Skateboard Mag's website as the subject of the latest Mag Minute.

Good shit! This dude has always been an all-around shredder, in fact last time I saw him he was killing the Girl park during their 3rd annual open house contest that they had back in January.

Ryan ended up in second place but there were a bunch of people there (like me) that were shocked he didn't win.

Anyway, like I said, always like to see local heads on the come up, CHEEEEEEEE HUUUUU!

C-Boys GO GO GO!

Found this cool little video while lurking on the Slap Messageboard, and I have to say that this is a pleasant surprise and change from all the shit-talking and name calling that tends to clutter the place up sometimes.

Basically it's a crew of Japanese dudes dorking around and from the looks of it, I'd say having a great fucking time.

Also about to be hitting up Japan again next month, and seeing this kind of shit always gets me even more hyped than I already am about going there, if that was even possible.

Week In Review: Basically Weak In Review

This week has been uneventful for the most part except for my man Kenneth's birthday party at Hibiscus on Tuesday and the No Doubt concert on Wednesday.
PSYCHE!
I didn't go to no fucking No Doubt concert, are you high?
I did make it to Hibiscus for my boy's birfday though.
No photos, I'm not the type anymore to go paparazzo like that when partying, but Kenny has some.
We threw darts, dropped some Jager bombs and ate mad steak and mushrooms, it was a good time.

It's been raining a lot this week, a lot of time to do bullshit at home when not at work, I emptied the bowl on my desk that I keep loose change in.
I came up on 102 dollars in just pennies, nickels, and dimes.
This was probably the best thing I did all week, how exciting.

Oh, and I also have a complete new setup.
It was time for a new board anyway, also wheels needed changing too, but the most surprising element in this equation is the trucks.
I ditched the Hawaiian print Ace/APB collabo trucks for a set of Thunders.
Whoa.
I haven't ridden a set of Thunders since about 1995 when Rob Carlyon used to get boxes of them sent to our house when he and Kenny and I lived together.
These things have hollow kingpins, I passed on getting the ones that have hollow axles as well but it feels fucking trippy nonetheless.
Several people have been raving about Thunders and their ability to turn (like other trucks DO NOT turn) so I thought I'd give them a shot.
Oh, I almost forgot, they're black and blue with shit painted on the hangers.
Shit, I can't complain, I had flowers on my last trucks, what the fuck...
Regardless, it still feels like I'm riding someone else's board.
I guess I'll get used to it.
I fucking hope so.

Today is Friday, amazingly I don't have to work today.
I'm going to go skate and hopefully these trucks work, if they do I'll be happy and I'll share this news with other people I know that ride Thunders.
And if they don't work out for me, I'm going to tell Darin and Chad to go fuck themselves.

Late Pass: Recipe For Happiness DVD

This shit right here has been sitting in the vault for a little bit and I've been meaning to throw this up for a month or so but I'm a lazy bastard. So be it.

Two of our homies from Hawaii that now reside in Los Angeles make appearances in the indie video Recipe For Happiness, which is the latest flick from L.A. filmer/shredder Aryeh Kraus.

You may remember that this video premiered in L.A. a few months ago, this was the flyer.
Anyway, when Adrian Adrid was here for a little vacation last month he brought a copy for us to check out, and it is pretty damn good I must say.

Adrian has the first part, and he definitely sets the tone and kicks the bar up a few notches on the shreddability scale.
Dude has serious skills and a style that is unfuckwittable! Making shit happen is what he's all about, and this is a good example of how it should be done.

Later in the video Jarold Webb has a shared part, but his skating still is on some stand alone, upper level type shit.
This kid has really grown into his style and ability, which were always top notch, and it's rad to see his maturity and growth as a skater has fully developed into some grown man shit.

I don't want to gush too hard NO HOMO NO HOMO NO HOMO but I'm stoked for these two guys and you should be too.
Word is that Adrian and Jarold are on the Stereo flow program, and it's great to see Hawaiians making power moves!

I'm gonna leave you with some stills from the video, and if you want to buy this DVD I would recommend that you get in touch with Aryeh himself on his Vimeo page and leave him a message. I think the video is like 10 bucks, totally worth it, go get it.

First part, best part. Really.

Adrian is just bursting with creativity, I forget what this is but it's dope.

Here's Adrian casually traveling across some ledge somewhere.

If you're stepping to this beast, you're officially gnarly. Adrian flipped the script on this joint, get the video and find out what went down.

Adrian's like, YEAH SO WHAT, I'M KIND OF GOOD, BIG DEAL! He's really, really good and he is a pretty big deal actually.

Shared part, but to me Webby is in a class by himself.

Jarold has a philosophy that I can relate to.

Kickflip a mountain? FUCK IT!

Hollywood? Dude fits in nicely.

Big up to all heads that are out their skating and filming and making their own shit!
Independent videos are what's up, and I will always support dudes like this.

Donny, You're Out Of Your Element!

If you haven't seen it already, Element Skateboards has posted part one of their documentary which basically chronicles the history of the company since it was founded by Andy Howell in 1992 as Underworld Element.

The documentary was originally planned to be released as a full length film but they have broken it down into four parts, the first part is viewable online now.

Ehhh, it's not bad overall, a little bit corny for my tastes, but the main thing that jumped out at me the most was the part when they were talking about New Deal in the early nineties and showing a bunch of clips of some of their riders. It was at this time that they showed our Hawaiian homie, my man Cuzzo himself, Rene Matthyssen spinning a sick backside 360 ollie down a double set in downtown Honolulu.

Now this would normally be something that would get me hyped beyond all recognition, a dude from Hawaii that made it in the skateboard industry back in the day and one of my good friends to boot! Yeah, and they're propping him out a little in this new documentary, and that's all fine and dandy but check out the name during this clip:

Whaaaaaaaat? That don't look like no Fred Olande.
If you don't know, Fred Olande was one of the guys on New Deal back in the day and he was a ripping dude on vert as well as street. Not only that, but he was a really good friend of Rene's from San Diego.
Anyway, maybe that's how they got the two confused, but whoever was in charge of editing this should have caught this error.

Okay, second of all, I just wanted to say that they should have propped out Andy Howell waaaay more than they did in that video and they could have at least got him to speak a little something, after all, he started the company.

I remember when that shit first came out, in fact one of the very first ASR trade shows I ever went to was right before Underworld Element came out, and Andy Howell was manning the booth there pretty much all by himself. He was hyped on the new project, you could really tell in the way he spoke about it and showed off the boards and clothing that he had created, most vividly I remember him being psyched on the U.E. fisherman hats that rappers like EPMD made famous.

The brand always seemed really hip-hop influenced and streetwear-like well before streetwear ever existed, and this is the real Element to me, the way it was from 1992 to around 1995.

Dope graphics, peep the Rick Ibaseta slickbottom in all black and white!

Just a smidgen of the sick ideas and concepts that Andy Howell introduced to the skate world. Pang Starr, son! What!

Skypager, kid. This video is seriously on some underrated and underappreciated shit. If you know, you know. If not, well...bummer for you.

I guess I'm just being nostalgic, but I really do prefer the Underworld Element phase of the company.
Their stuff nowadays isn't bad, but the early days were so much more creative and flavorful in my opinion.

Oh, and couldn't ignore our buddy Ryan Kingman in the video either!

Anytime I see that dude in anything it makes me crack a big smile because he is one of the good guys in skateboarding, and of course we all love to see local braddahs doing it big in the industry.

In4mation In NYC

Feast your eyes on this little promo featuring In4mation riders in New York City!

A little while back team manager The Flyin' Hawaiian Sean Kelling had a bunch of the guys come to NYC including local boy Bernardo Bernard.
Hell yeah, that's our boy nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh-nuh NARDO!

This promo has dope little spots that are utilized creatively and a good mix of shredding homies with distinct styles.
Also, with the inclusion of some brand new John Igei footage to top it all off, this little video morsel is good shit all around.

Pool Clip

My man Noodles already put this clip up a couple days ago, but if you haven't seen it yet, this is definitely worth checking out.

A few posts ago there was photographic documentation of a pool session I partook in with Sean Reilly, Jef Hartsel, and Jonathan Sonar Brousseau a.k.a Skillet, and now Skill-R-Chi has posted up a video that was shot during that same session.

Seems like Skillet has stepped up his filming and editing game quite a bit since the Lomsbread videos, good looking out, brethren, big up yourself!
