Matt Chaffin on DGK

Saw this yesterday on Instagram so I suppose it's not a secret or anything, but local braddah Matt "Shmatty" Chaffin is no longer riding for Almost Skateboards and is now part of the DGK squad.

Was confused a little when I first saw this but got confirmation and explanation in a text message from Matt and it's definitely all good between him and the Almost cats, in fact he was skating with Daewon yesterday.
DGK made him an offer, Almost didn't match it and there you go.

Personally, I like Almost a lot, I think they're doing it differently than most companies and they keep it interesting always, plus, the greatest living skateboarder in the world rides for them so yeah I am a fan of course, but I feel like this is a great move for Matt.
Most would have to agree that his whole look and style fit way better on DGK, I think its a match made in heaven myself and I'm sure the future holds even bigger and better things for Matt, congrats, homie!

Thrasher Mag's Maui Babe Video w/ Ryan Spencer

Thrasher Magazine recently sent a bunch of dudes over to the island of Maui for some shred time and it is documented in the July issue with Jim Greco on the cover as well as a series of videos on their website right now.

The crew consisted of Peter Hewitt, Darren Navarette, Al Partenen, Andrew Cannon, Mike Anderson, Preston Harper, Alex Horn, Eddie Alioto and local braddah Ryan Spencer who happens to be from Maui and therefore acted as official tour guide and spot liaison.

All I have to say is FUCK YOU, MAUI!
Why do you have such cool spots?
Couple of new skateparks, some older ones and a couple of fun looking ditches get sessioned in the three part video as well as a private bowl and vert ramp at some kid's house that looks really gnar.

Part One:

Part Two:

Part Three:

Need to make it out to the Valley Isle really soon, sick of seeing photos and videos of all that good shit already, plus need Krispie Kreme!!

Nate Nahina & Mike Graniyo Cali To Vegas Trippin' Video

Ho, Hawaiian!
This little mainland trip video that braddah Nate Nahina made is off the manapua truck!!
Nate and homie Mike Graniyo jetted over to L.A. to kick it with fellow Hawaiians Matt Chaffin and Danny Hamaguchi for some shredding and even a side trip to Vegas where Mike G. came up 4 GRAND gambling like a true bawse!
Chee!
Hawaiians and Vegas just naturally go hand in hand you know?

Dope footage, honest straight up shralping, and all-around good fun vibes from Nate, Mike, Shmatty and Danny, check it out:

Cali to Vegas Trippin 2012 from paniolonate on Vimeo.

So many killer parks and spots over there and these braddahs just absolutely tore it the fuck up!
Makes you want to get off this rock every now and then to experience skating in a whole different environment, right?
Mahalo Nate for the killer clips!

Danny Hamaguchi in RUA Magazine Japan

Pleasant Sunday morning surprise to see that a mind bending photo of not so little anymore Danny Hamaguchi appears in the latest issue of RUA Magazine, one of the finer Japanese skateboard publications.

This insane picture was shot by Japanese shredder and L.A. resident Yuto Kojima during the Spliff All-Stars night at Brandon Biebel's warehouse a few months back.
The video of this night was taken down for some bullshit reasons probably due to music copyright or some other malarkey but if you never had the chance to see it for yourself, I can assure you that Danny popped these beastly nollie 360 flips over the table several times and the last one he did was absolutely perfect.

By the way, Danny has a longer than full part (no mahu) in the upcoming local video collabo project that Darin Lee and Conor McGivern are working on editing right now, and the video is scheduled to premiere August 1st but I'm not too sure about where and when just yet, but I am 100 percent sure that his footage is bonkers and it may just make you want to quit skateboarding as you know it.

By the way if you visit the Rua Magazine website , you can download every issue they have in PDF form for free, and the issue that Danny has this photo in is issue #8.

Also included in this issue as a bonus is another one of our homies that lives in Japan now but spent several years killing it right here in Hawaii, Kento Takahashi who is pictured here during a recent game of SKATE contest in Japan:

So very stoked to see Hawaiian braddahs ripping it up on all shores and getting coverage worldwide!!

Almost 5 Incher DVD Out Now!

Well that was quick wasn't it?
The new Almost video 5 Incher just premiered last night in Long Beach (also had a little premiere right here in Honolulu at Downbeat Diner as well) and now the DVD is on sale at finer skate shops.

APB has it.

808 Skate has it.

I bought it, and at 8 bucks it is the steal of the century as far as skate videos goes.
Sure its not a full length (pause) video but it's half an hour of ludicrous shred stunts that will melt your fucking face off.
If a new Daewon part or a new Chris Haslam part doesn't get you excited (by the way you're completely retarded if they don't) then get this video for the mere fact that one of our own Hawaiian skate bredren has a part in it.

Matt Chaffin is the first guy featured in the flow montage and I'm a little bit disappointed that he doesn't have his own part but that's how flow works, you gotta put in time and stack clips to get the glory and this is definitely a step in the right direction for him.

PLUS, the flow guys are ALL on fire.
Holy shit these dudes are not fucking around.
Michael Sommer, CJ Tambornino, and Issey Yumiba are the other three flow bros and its not hard to see how fierce the competition is to gain elite amateur status on a major skateboard company these days.

Anyway, here are some photos lifted from the Transworld site from the premiere in Long Beach last night:

Active Erica wants to know what's really good with Shmitz!

I don't know who the homie is Matt is standing next to but Matt has a super sick Kenny tattoo on his hand!!
So rad brah, LENNY BLAZE FOREVER RIP KENNY BRIMER!!! My man.

Spliff All-Stars Captain Clot and Nihonjin shredder Yuto Kojima represented for braddah Matt!

Matt with fellow flow dude CJ Tambornino and Joey Brezinski.

Matt with the man the myth Rodney Mullen, who has no footage in the new video but is he filming for a solo video part as we speak?
Might just be.

Anyway, support your local shop, buy this video 8 dollars for this insane piece of cinematography is an incredible bargain.
